Can You See Who Viewed Your TikTok Story?

Yes. While your story is active, open it and swipe up to see how many views it has and which accounts watched it. TikTok's Help Center describes this as the way to check who viewed your story.

This guide walks through the steps, explains what the list can and can't show, covers the usual reasons it looks empty or incomplete, and clears up how it differs from profile view history.

How to see who viewed your TikTok story

  1. Open TikTok and go to your profile, or tap your profile picture on the home screen if it shows a story ring.
  2. Open your active story so it starts playing.
  3. Swipe up on the story. A panel opens with the total number of views and the accounts that watched.
  4. Scroll the list to see every account. Close the panel to go back to the story.

Menu wording changes between app versions, but the gesture described in TikTok's Help Center is the same: swipe up on your own story. You must be the owner. Nobody else can open your viewer list.

What the viewer list shows

The list shows the accounts that watched your story and the total number of views. It is a record of viewers, not an analytics dashboard, so don't expect watch time, locations or repeat-view counts. TikTok doesn't describe those in its help pages.

Why your viewer list might look empty or short

  • Nobody has watched yet. A brand-new story needs a little time to collect views.
  • Your audience is limited. You can choose who sees each story. On a public account that can be everyone, friends, or only you; on a private account it can be followers, friends, or only you. A smaller audience means a shorter list. To check, open the story, select Share, then Settings.
  • People watched without an account. Someone using a viewer tool, or watching without logging in, doesn't appear by name. TikTok doesn't document how those views are counted, so the total and the names may not match.
  • The story expired. Stories last 24 hours. After that, the live viewer panel may no longer be available.
  • An app glitch. Updating the app and reopening the story fixes many display problems.

Can you see who viewed your story after 24 hours?

TikTok stories stay visible for 24 hours. Some versions of the app let you look back at past stories, but TikTok doesn't clearly say whether the viewer list remains available after a story expires, and the menus differ by version. The safe habit is to check the list while the story is still active, and take a screenshot if you need a record.

Is this the same as profile view history?

No. Profile view history is a separate setting under Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Profile views. TikTok's Help Center says it shows accounts that visited your profile in the past 30 days, only when both accounts have it turned on, and that it is off by default. It describes profile visits, and it doesn't say it tells you who watched a particular story. You can read more in the guide on whether people see you watching their stories.

What the order of viewers means

Many people read meaning into who appears first. TikTok hasn't published how the list is ordered, so the safe answer is that the order is not a reliable signal of anything. The details are in what the order of TikTok story views means.

Choosing who can watch, and what it does to your list

Your viewer list only ever includes people who were allowed to watch. TikTok lets you set the audience for each story. On a public account the options are Everyone, Friends (followers you follow back) or Only you; on a private account they are Followers, Friends or Only you. To change it on an existing story, open the story in the app, select Share, then Settings, and pick the audience.

If you share a story with Friends only, expect a short list, and don't read it as a drop in popularity. If a story is set to Only you, the list will be empty by design. Tightening the audience is a quick fix when you posted something you would rather not have strangers see.

If swiping up doesn't open the list

  1. Make sure you are opening your own story, from your profile or your story ring, and that it is still within its 24 hours.
  2. Swipe up from the lower part of the screen and keep the story from advancing while you do it.
  3. Update TikTok to the latest version and restart the app.
  4. Check that your story actually posted. A story that is still processing, or failed to upload, has no views to show.
  5. If the total count is higher than the names you can see, remember TikTok doesn't document how views from people without an account are counted.

Using your viewer list to make better stories

The list is most useful as a feedback loop, not a scoreboard. Compare totals across a week of stories to see which formats get watched: quick behind-the-scenes clips, questions for your followers, or announcements. Notice when you post, because stories posted when your audience is awake usually collect more views than ones posted at odd hours.

  • Keep a note of views per story for a week before changing your approach.
  • Try the same idea in two formats, such as a photo and a short video, and compare.
  • Ask a question in the story so viewers have a reason to respond.
  • Don't chase individual names. Patterns across many stories are more reliable than one viewer appearing or not.
